Nicholas F. Cognetta, Sr

Nicholas F. Cognetta, Sr. (1927-2005)

Nicholas F. Cognetta Sr., founder of Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home, was in the death care industry for 57 years. Born and raised in Stamford, he attended Villanova University upon his graduation from Stamford High School in 1945. Nicholas had served the Stamford community as a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 50 years in his own business, until his passing in August 2005.

Nicholas was a member of CFDA and NFDA and was a member of community organizations such as the Kiwanis Club, the Knight of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree, St. Mary’s Church, and St. Bridget’s Church. He also served on the board of St. Camillus Health Care Center and Woodland Cemetery. Nicholas and his wife Naida had a son, 3 daughters, and 10 grandchildren.

Nicholas F. Cognetta, Jr., is Owner and President of the Nicholas F. Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home in Stamford and Co-Owner of Raymond Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home in Norwalk. He was born and raised in Stamford and attended Rogers Elementary, St. Maurice, St. Gabriel Middle, and Stamford Catholic High Schools. Having spent his childhood living over the funeral home and working with his father, it was only natural that he would follow in his father’s footsteps. After graduating from Stamford Catholic High School, he attended the University of Connecticut and graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. He has been with Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home since 1979 having become a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1981. He was instrumental in creating the Connecticut Crematory Corporation, which is located within Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home and is the only crematory in Fairfield County, opening in 1995. Partnering with Tom Cicalese, Owner of Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan, they bought Raymond Funeral Home in 2000 (now recognized as Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home). He then began All Pets Crematory & Remembrances in Stamford in 2003, which is the only pet crematory in Fairfield County and beyond.

Nicholas is a member of the NFDA, CFDA, and CANA, as well as a past board member of the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Southwestern CT, Inc. He also volunteers his time to local charities and at New Canaan High School where he mentors the Future Business Leaders Class. He has a step-son, Christopher, who is now entering the funeral industry.

John F. Esposito, Manager of Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home, was born and raised in Stamford. John graduated from Rippowam High School in 1969 and from Norwalk Community College in 1971 with an Associates degree in Science. He then went on to attend the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. John is a licensed funeral director and embalmer who began his career in funeral service with Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home in 1972.

John has two sons and is a member of St. Mary’s Church of Stamford.

Anthony began in November of 2008 as an apprentice and became licensed in January of 2009 after attending Briarwood College and graduating top of his class. He has been involved in the death care industry since 2002 in New Haven County. He is very compassionate and enjoys helping others in his spare time, volunteering for various organizations and partaking in community events.

Jacqueline was raised in Naugatuck, CT and currently resides in Stamford. She attended Naugatuck High School and Salve Regina College after which she attended American Academy of McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, in New York City. She has been in the funeral service business for over 35 years and has been at Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home since March of 2005. She is currently on the Advisory Board for Lincoln College of New England, College of Mortuary Science program, formerly Briarwood College.


NON-LICENSED STAFF

Although not licensed funeral directors, these members of our staff are vitally important toward the operation of our firm. These individuals make it possible for us to professionally coordinate funerals with the quality of service our community has come to expect from us.

Michele, a lifelong Stamford resident, became a member of the Cognetta staff in September of 2005. In 1994, she and her daughter, Victoria, suffered the sudden loss of their husband/father and called on Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home to handle the arrangements. It was that event that sparked her interest in the death care industry. Among her many responsibilities, she drives the hearse, is a licensed hairdresser, and is a familiar face at the door during wakes and on funerals. She was remarried in 2000 to Mark and then had a son, Michael.

Joe Macklin

Born in Ireland, Joe emigrated to the United States in 1963 and settled in Stamford. He married and raised his family here. Joe retired from Pitney Bowes after forty-one years of service.

Following his retirement he decided to enter the funeral profession. Joe’s goal is to provide the families we serve with dignified and compassionate service that is second to none.

You can find him at our facilities in Stamford and Norwalk. Proficient in every aspect of the profession, he will be happy to accommodate any request you may have.

Joe is a member of St. Bridget of Ireland Church, Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 41 and also a Member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.


Josh Fendo

Josh became a part-time employee at Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home in 2012, and assists at wakes and funerals in various capacities.

A 1997 graduate of Stamford High School, Josh attended Central Connecticut State University afterwards to pursue a degree in Business Management. Since 2007 he has worked alongside his father as an independent insurance agent serving clients throughout Connecticut and the tri-state area.


Peter DiDonato

Peter is a lifelong Stamford resident, graduating from Westhill High School in 1979. Peter has been working for the Nicholas F Cognetta Funeral Home for three years as a parking lot attendant. He makes sure that family and friends are treated with dignity and respect when entering and exiting the funeral home. His main concern is the safety of wake-goers and vehicles entering and exiting the parking lot. Peter has very close and strong family ties as well as being well know and liked in Stamford.
