Alfonso Sgritta
Alfonso C. Sgritta, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the age of 86. Alfonso was born on November 18, 1937, son of the late Carlo and Andonette Troisi Sgritta.
Alfonso attended Stamford Public Schools and joined the United States Army in 1955, where he proudly served for 4 years and was stationed in Arizona. Upon leaving the military, he attended J.M. Wright Technical School where he went on to be employed in the building trade. He built several homes in Stamford, Old Greenwich, and Weston and was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 210. Alfonso ventured into locksmithing and opened Connecticut Lock & Key, Inc. in 1980, a local business that he was pleased to say is still operating successfully today. Alfonso was someone that could never sit still, so he was very involved in the community, working in real estate, as a member of the Republican Town Committee, the Stamford Zoning Board of Appeals, and as a Justice of the Peace. Alfonso was a member of the Ansonia Gun Club and Cos Cob Gun Club, where he was a Range Officer and instructor for pistol permits, and he was a lifetime member of the NRA. Alfonso loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time on his boat in the Long Island Sound. When he was home, you would often find him outside tinkering in his yard or in the garden. His grandchildren were a great source of his pride and happiness, and he loved spending time with them.
Alfonso is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Beverly (Young) Sgritta and their children: Ann Marie Sgritta-Luchetta and Alfonso J. Sgritta (Tiffanie), both of Stamford; his beloved grandchildren Michelle (Jonathan) Arce, Melanie Luchetta, Emily Sgritta, Madeline Luchetta, and Matthew Sgritta, as well as his great-granddaughter, Lily Arce. He is also survived by his brother Carl Sgritta and his wife Linda of Darien and three cherished nephews: Carl (Ellie), Stephen (Monica), and Christopher (Ashley) Sgritta, in addition to several other nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT on the evening of Friday, September 27, 2024, from 4 to 8 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 9:40 AM and processing to St. John’s RC Church, 1986 Boston Post Rd., Darien, where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM.
