Aline Thorme

Aline Hautekiet Thorme passed away on August 2, 2024 with her family by her side. Born in Etterbeek, Belgium on May 25, 1934 to Adrien George and Maria (Candelaria) Hautekiet, Aline witnessed all of World War II while living in Belgium. On the day the war ended, she helped her grandfather ring the bells at St Michael church in Brussels where he was the caretaker.
As a teenager, her family moved to Malaga, Spain then to Tangier, Morocco where she attended school. In 1952 while attending a bullfight she met William (Bill) Thorme, a navy Seabee stationed in Port Lyautey, Morocco and the rest is history. Their marriage on May 6, 1953, in Tangier lasted over 70 years.
After marrying, they moved to Stamford, Connecticut where they raised two wonderful daughters. During her early Stamford years, Aline worked as a bank teller and taught French to school children before working at Xerox up to retirement.
During her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting, playing cards (she was a card shark), and cooking. Her favorite activity was boating specifically swimming off their boat in Long Island Sound as she enjoyed her summers at the Halloween Yacht Club.
After retirement, Aline and Bill moved to Avondale, Pennsylvania where she continued knitting and playing cards at the Newark Senior Center.
Aline is survived by her devoted husband of over 70 years William Thorme, daughters Barbara Thorme (Barry Williams) of Newark, Delaware, and Patricia Drake (Howard) of Madison, Connecticut, three grandchildren Heather Grazado (Jason) of Marblehead, Massachusetts, Brooke Smith (Bryan) of Carroll, New Hampshire, and Casey Drake of Gorham, Maine, great grandson Xavier Grazado of Marblehead, Massachusetts.
