June Wood

June Ann Wood, 82 was a lifelong resident of Stamford. She passed away peacefully into God’s welcoming arms at Stamford Hospital on Sunday, July 17, 2022. June was born on June 17, 1940, daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret (Frano) Potolicchio. June was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, James H. Wood, Jr. who nicknamed her June bug. She was also predeceased by her brother and sister in-laws from the Wood family. June is survived by her brothers Samuel, Kenneth, and William Potolicchio. Her daughters Carol-Ann Siciliano, Elizabeth-Ann Wood, Jennifer-Marie Heslin and her husband Micheal. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces/nephews and her fur grand pups, Lily, Milo, and Jojo. She was so proud of her family. She attended Rice Elementary School and Stamford high school, class of 1958. She worked at Stamford Superior Drugs for many years. June was a devote catholic and a longtime member of St. Mary’s RC Church. She was a member of the Rosary Society, Prayer Group, a former CCD teacher of second grade and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered her time for the church fairs and numerous church events. Her church life provided her with joy and friendships. Her early years were spent in downtown Stamford on Cottage St., until the family moved to into their new home on Hubbard Ave. Later to reside in the Cove area. She enjoyed bowling, family picnics, playing cards, praying the Rosary and short boat rides. Later in life she liked to play bingo, work on word searches and activities with peers. She was a loving and caring mother. She was dedicated to her family, friends and pets which she adored. She was kind, had a heart of gold, loved unconditionally, showed compassion and had a giving spirit. She was always willing to lend a hand or an ear to listen. She faced life with resiliency and a smile. Her loving nature and sweet soul will be deeply missed. Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, on Friday July 22, 2022, from 8:30- 10:30 am. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM following the calling hours at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT 06902. Interment will be held St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in June’s memory to St. Mary’s Church, Stamford, or a charity of your choice.
