Georgia Saltis
Georgia Saltis, a former Stamford resident, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2023.
Georgia was born in Greece on August 29, 1929, to the late Costas and Eva (nee Ganos) Drallios. She came to the United States in 1931and settled in Bronx, NY.
As a young woman in her 20’s, she had a very exciting life working in Manhattan for ASCAP Records and at the Waldorf Astoria and enjoying city life until she met her husband Michael Saltis at a Greek wedding. They settled in Stamford, CT. where she raised her two loving daughters. Upon retirement, they headed out west and lived in Prescott, Arizona and then Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and eventually coming back and settling in the Bronx.
Georgia enjoyed life to the fullest. While working full time, she was a doting wife and mother, a devout Christian and very active in the Church of the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church in Stamford, CT. She found much pleasure in reading broadly and in sharing books with her daughters. She enjoyed the beach, tennis, theater, traveling with her family, cooking (she was the best cook), and an avid Yankees fan since she was a young girl living in the Bronx, often attending games with her girlfriends her cuffed jeans bobby sox and saddle shoes.
She loved her family beyond words and absolutely adored her grandson Trevor, who was simply the apple of her eye. The joy he gave her was immeasurable.
She was the most patient, most selfless, gentle soul on earth. She gave everything and never expected anything in return. She made everyone she met feel special and her heart was so much bigger than her tiny frame.
She filled our home with light and love, song and music and books. Thank you, Mom, you were our example for everything, our guidepost to living a fulfilling and enriched cultural life.
The angels are lucky now Mom, they will learn a lot from you.
Sweet Dreams, Mom, say hi to Dad for us and I hope you two are finally dancing again together to Frank Sinatra…..the Best is Yet to Come……
Georgia is survived by her two loving daughters, Madeline Russo and Ava Saltis and her cherished grandson, Trevor Russo. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Saltis in 2017.
A private Church service and Interment will be held for immediate family members only on Friday, February 17, 2023.
