William Polotaye

William (Bill) F. Polotaye, Sr., 90, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born in Stamford on September 1, 1931 and was one of four children born to the late Paul and Katherine Loretta Flanigan Polotaye.

Bill graduated from Stamford High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952. He often told stories of traveling the world and was incredibly proud to serve our country. He lived a long life of service and touched many lives as a member of the Stamford Police Forcefor 36 years. He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and always enjoyed spirited conversations with his friends and family.

Bill loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his son William Polotaye, Jr.,daughter Maureen Mullins and husband Bryan, grandchildren Erin Gelormino and husband Mike,Casey Pessy and husband Joe, Bryan Mullins, Jamie Mullins, William Polotaye III and wife Ashleigh, and Stephen Polotaye, as well as hisgreat-grandchildren Charlie, Ryan, Grace, and Addison. Bill is also survived by his sister-in-law Bridget Ormond, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by his loving wife Shelia Polotaye, daughter Shelia Polotaye, and siblings Paul Polotaye, Richard P. Polotaye and Jackie Polotaye.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bill on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 1170 Shippan Avenue, Stamford at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. There will be no calling hours.
